1-step correction (single machine polish stage) removes about 60–70% of light swirls and minor scratches — great for vehicles with mild defects. 2-step adds a heavy compound cutting stage before fine polish, removing 85–95% of defects including deeper marring. 2-step is recommended for heavily swirled or older paint.
